I would like to extend an invitation to everyone to join me for the 8th annual Scott Kelby World Wide Photo Walk. While this may be the 8th year for the walk, this is the second year that Stony Plain will be one of the host locations. Last year saw over 1000 official photo walk sites around the world with over 20,000 photographers taking part!!
Not sure what the World Wide Photo Walk is?? Well, essentially it's a social gathering of photographers. We get together and spend a couple of hours exploring & photographing an area. Afterwards we'll have a chance to chat with one another, share some photographs, and quite likely a few stories.
The walk can be a great family activity. My daughter & I have been taking part in the walks now for several years and always have a fantastic time. We get to spend some quality time together, get some fresh air & exercise, and a hopefully a few good shots. The opportunity to meet other photographers from all walks of life, experience levels, and areas of interest has also been both educational and inspiring.
This year, the walk will be held at the Stony Plain & Parkland Pioneer Museum, one of Stony Plain’s “hidden gems”. The Museum has long been a favorite of mine and has graced the front of my lens on many occasions. With plenty of historical and period buildings, displays, vehicles, equipment, and artifacts; the photo opportunities here are nearly limitless.
It’s completely free to participate in the walk, but this year we’re “Walking with a Purpose” by encouraging all participants to donate as little as $1 to the Springs of Hope Orphanage in Kenya. You can make that $1 back and then some by entering your favorite shot from your walk into our contest, with a chance to win amazing prizes from our sponsors. In addition to the donations, funds for the orphanage are also raised through the sale of photo walk shirts.
Oh, yeah... did I mention the prizes?? For those that choose, there is also a photo competition with some ABSOLUTELY AMAZING PRIZES!!! I encourage everyone to sign up for the walk and come out for a morning of fun and photography.
