Our World. Our Heritage. My Passion.

Made My Day

Last night, while at a fundraiser in support of the Sigis Childcare Society in St. Albert, I had one of the most memorable and touching moments I have ever had as a photographer.  For the event, I had donated an aluminum print of Pyramid Mountain at sunrise reflected in Pyramid Lake.  This is undoubtedly one of my all-time favorite shots taken at one of my favorite locations to shoot.

After the print was auctioned off, I had the pleasure of talking briefly with the winning bidder.  It turns out that she was raised in Jasper and Pyramid Lake was very near and dear to her.  What struck me most during our conversation was her comment on the emotional impact it had on her.  To have someone tell me that after years of seeing paintings & photos of this location, and finally finding one that captured the essence of what it meant to her was very touching.  I was also honored to hear that she had purchased the print to give to her parents for their 50th anniversary.

As a photographer, I often have a strong emotional attachment to many of my photos... after all, that is usually one of the reasons I chose to take it.  To hear that same response from someone with a connection to the subject of my shot is truly touching.  To say that that one brief moment made my day is an understatement.
